Please be aware that due to reduced staffing levels, an appointment may be necessary in order to speak with a planner. Most general questions can be answered by reviewing Title 17 of the Municipal Code (Zoning Ordinance.)

Mission

The mission of the Planning Department is to provide comprehensive information and recommendations to the public and public policy to decision-makers to ensure that development projects are of the highest possible quality. The department also plans for the development of the city.

Responsibilities
Among its duties, the Planning Department:
  • Conducts environmental reviews under the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act
  • Processes all development-related applications
  • Provides staffing, reports, and recommendations to the Beaumont Planning Commission and Beaumont City Council on planning and development matters

Primary Functions
The Planning Department provides a series of functions and services related to the existing and future development of the city, including:
  • Administration of the subdivision of land for development projects
  • Administration of the subdivision ordinance
  • Administration of zoning ordinances and city codes
  • Maintenance and updates of the city’s general plan
  • Maintenance of a customer service counter 
  • Provision of planning, zoning, and land use information to the public
