Beaumont to Host Professional Bike Race on March 26th


7:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

On Friday, March 26, 2010, the City of Beaumont will host a professional bike race as part of the 26th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic. This will be the third year in a row that the City has hosted this race. The event is expected to attract 300 world class cyclists from across the country and the world. Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch this exciting event. Volunteer opportunities are also available for anyone who would like to be a race marshal.

The event will consist of 3 separate races that will take riders throughout Beaumont, Banning and Cherry Valley. A special hand-cycling race for disabled athletes will begin at 7:45 a.m. and consist of a modified route.  The women’s race will begin at 9:15 a.m. and consist of 1 lap through Banning and 2 laps through Beaumont/Cherry Valley.  The men’s race will begin at 10:00 a.m. and consist of 1 lap through Banning and 3 laps through Beaumont/Cherry Valley.  All of the races will start and finish at the Beaumont Civic Center, located at 550 E. 6th Street. All races will conclude no later than 4:00 p.m.

During the race day, there will be rolling street closures and “No Parking” zones throughout the course. The areas most affected within the City of Beaumont will be along 6th Street, Beaumont Avenue, Oak Valley Parkway, Brookside Ave and Highland Springs Avenue. The Banning portion of the race will travel east on Ramsey Street, up through the Banning Bench and return via Wilson Street into Beaumont.

Spectator Areas
The City Hall lawn provides for an excellent place to view the start and finish of all races. Here you can also visit with local business' at the Chamber sponsored Business Expo. There will be business and service club booths, a representative for the 2010 Census to answer any questions and the Official vendor for the Redlands Bicycle Classic.

We also encourage you to visit local business' along the race route. There are various shopping centers located on both 6th Street, Beaumont Ave and Oak Valley Parkway. These locations have plenty of parking and space to sit back and view the riders flying by, between laps you could even browse the local shops!

This is a special event for the City of Beaumont and we hope that all citizens of the Pass area come out and share it with us!

Road Closures
During the race, there will be rolling road closures in which vehicles will be required to pull over when the riders are coming by and then will be allowed to go about their business.

Due to safety and traffic concerns, there will be a few streets that will be closed for the duration of the race. Detours will be in place for these roads.

Oak Valley Parkway
  • Between Highland Springs & Starlight - closed
  • Between Palm Avenue & Starlight - westbound lane closed, eastbound lane will be divided for 2-way traffic

Highland Springs
  • Between Brookside Ave & 8th Street - closed

Palm Avenue
  • Between Oak Valley Parkway & 6th Street - southbound lane closed w/ no parking, northbound lane open, cross traffic allowed

Beaumont Avenue
  • Between 6th Street & Brookside - intermittent closures
  • Intersection of 6th Street & Beaumont Avenue - closed, traffic will be diverted

6th Street
  • Between Palm Avenue & Beaumont Avenue - closed

Orange Avenue
  • Between 6th St & 8th Street - closed
