Beaumont is an anglicized French word that the town’s first settlers used to describe the “beautiful mountains” of our community. Last week, the city truly lived up to its name when a storm turned Sundance neighborhoods a wintry white and made snowball fights the perfect pastime at the Albert A. Chatigny Sr. Community Recreation Center. As the storm lifted and crystal clear skies embraced the Pass, Beaumont residents awoke to nature’s winter majesty. In the pink glow of dawn, they beheld the snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains. Golfers hit the links at the East Valley Golf Club Home of the Southern California PGA. Motorists driving along Sixth Street or taking Beaumont Avenue beneath a canopy of deodar trees seemed transported to a mountain setting. And families gathered to build a snowman at the Beaumont Sports Park. In every direction, residents spied a glimpse of the “Winter Wonderland” that is Beaumont.
